Nishad Karim - Fine Art

As a Trinidadian, I have developed a love and passion for the natural environment. I grew up in a large family involved in business and agriculture and was always surrounded by lush green fields, colourful fresh fruits and vegetables and bustling market scenes.

I especially reminisce on the days I accompanied my father on his journeys to visit other farmers to purchase and collect produce, crates and baskets ,all corners of the land. I enjoyed looking at the mountain ranges, plains, bridges, beaches and rivers with all the brilliant colours and intense light. These experiences, combined with a genuine love for art and an admiration for the outdoors, have greatly influenced my passion for landscape painting.

I try to capture the land as it exists in its raw and natural form. I enjoy working with highly texturized canvasses using a variety of materials to create a collage and 3D effect. My technique is sometimes forceful, aggressive and brisk as I press and work paint into the cracks and crevices. This forcefulness is soothed by the movement, lighting and tranquillity of the finished composition as it invites the viewer to appreciate the environment as I do and to enter my world.

I paint using all media with acrylics being my favourite for its versatility and quick drying time. I love painting watercolours with a wet on wet technique which allows me to experiment with a variety of effects.

I now reside and work in the UK continuing with my exploration/ investigation in painting and a desire for knowledge which would take me into another journey to finding myself as an artist.
